The Etyek-Buda wine region is a half our drive from Budapest. Due to its proximity to the capital it is an ideal destination for a daytrip. Its climate is said to be similar to that of Champagne and that explains why most of the grapes that provide the basic material for the most famous Hungarian sparkling wine, Törley Champagne are grown here.
The region is also known for its fresh, fragrant, and elegant white wines such as Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc but we can find delicious red wine as well like Pinot Noir and Kadarka.
It is a relatively young wine region that is living a very exciting period since its revival that has started from the 1990’s. A new generation of wine-makers has been populating the region opening their various sized family or boutique wineries open to new technologies, solutions reaching back to the traditions of the pre-communist era. On this tour you will have the chance to visit some of them while enjoying the surrounding countryside with its gentle line of hills and tidy vineyards.

We begin our 5-hour tour down in the village of Etyek, where we visit the row of old cellars called Körpincesor and Kecskegödör, carved out of limestone some 100-150 years ago by Swabian wine makers who made up the majority of the population in the region until WWII.
Here we already learn about the history of winemaking and taste some wine produced in a small local winery.
After having taken a glimpse of the pretty little village we visit a mini craft winery on the so called Old Hill of Etyek run by two young people who renovated an old press house and started their activity on the hill a few years ago. They will do a wine tasting for us that will consist of 5 wines accompanied by a delicious three-course meal from their own grown farmer’s products. You will enjoy a breathtaking panorama from the terrace looking onto the vineyards of Old Hill.
The couple’s female component is a jazz singer. I you wish there is possibility to enjoy your meal and wine tasting accompanied by the live performance of the Evelyn Tóth Trio that plays a very relaxing and pleasant mixture of Hungarian folk and jazz with a contemporary flavor. The concert is of extra charge.
After having enjoyed the hospitality of our friends we take a nice walk among the enchanting little houses and grapevines visiting two other cellars that will show us the great variety of wine production and innovation that the region offers.
