Since most of the important cultural institutions of the 1800's used to be in the inner city of Pest, and Liszt himself spent a lot of time here even when living elsewhere, we begin our stroll here. We visit several smaller, often hidden churches like the Inner City Parish Church, the Servite Order's Church on Servita square, the Franciscan Church where Liszt performed or listened to other perform and learning also about the history and function of the organ, the main church music instrument.
On Servita Square we hop into Rózsavölgyi Salon which has a special role in the Hungarian music scene and was founded more than 150 years ago. The music shop re-opened as a cultural centre at 5 Szervita Square in 1912.
We also visit the Pesti Vigadó, which opened its gates to the general public in 1865, has been functioning as a centre of social life in all ages. The second biggest concert hall of Budapest provided a venue to concerts by Strauss, Liszt, Erkel, Wagner, Bartók and many others.
Leaving downtown of Pest we arrive to Andrássy Boulvard to get a glimpse of the State Opera house to arrive to the amazing Art Nouveau edifice of the Academy of Music, founded by Liszt himself.
As the last stop we arrive further down on Anddrássy to the exsquisite Franz Liszt Memorial Musem, former home of the Academy of Music and Liszt himself. The tour includes the visiting of the museum, and of course a pleasant break in a beautiful historic café.
This time our motto is: "My City, Liszt's Way!"
